The Capitol Police Drone Team provides specialized aerial support to enhance the safety and security of the Capitol Complex. Utilizing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), the team delivers real‑time visual information that assists in the assessment of incidents, monitoring of large‑scale events, and support of ongoing security operations. This capability strengthens the agency’s ability to respond effectively to emerging situations while reducing risk to officers and the public.

The Drone Team is composed of trained and certified operators who maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations governing UAS operations. Team members complete FAA Part 107 certification, agency‑approved training, and ongoing proficiency exercises to ensure safe and effective deployment. Operators are responsible for conducting pre‑flight planning, equipment inspections, and mission‑specific assessments to support operational readiness.

The team is deployed for a variety of missions, including emergency response, perimeter and crowd monitoring, area assessments, and documentation of incidents or scenes when appropriate. The aerial perspective provided by UAS technology enhances situational awareness, supports decision‑making, and contributes to the overall security posture of the Capitol Police.

Through the integration of advanced technology, specialized training, and coordinated operational support, the Capitol Police Drone Team serves as a critical resource in maintaining a secure environment for state employees, elected officials, and visitors to Florida’s Capitol.
