HomeDirected Patrol
Capitol Police employs the use of bicycles within the Directed Patrol Team to enhance community policing efforts and increase officer visibility throughout the State Capitol Complex and the Capitol Circle Office Center (CCOC) in Tallahassee. Bicycle‑mounted officers are able to respond more quickly to emergencies and can effectively interrupt crimes in progress through a quieter, more discreet approach.
Bicycle patrols provide officers with greater mobility in congested or restricted areas where motor vehicles have limited access. They also allow officers to cover larger areas more efficiently than foot patrols. In many situations, bicycle operations have proven to be more cost‑effective than motor vehicles, and in most cases, bicycles replace motorized patrols for eight hours per day or longer.
The Directed Patrol Team regularly supports special events at both the State Capitol Complex and the CCOC. Team members also participate in community outreach activities, including demonstrations at youth bicycle rodeos sponsored by local civic organizations.
