History

Originally part of the Fort Walton Beach Field Office, the Pensacola Branch Office was established in 1972 and became a regional operations center in 1996. PROC encompasses 10 counties stretching from the rural areas bordering Alabama in the north to the Gulf of Mexico in the south. The geographical location includes six military bases, thousands of acres of woods, and 140 miles of coastline.

PROC agents and analysts work a variety of criminal investigations focusing on domestic security, major drugs, public integrity/economic crime, and violent crime. The Pensacola Forensic Laboratory processes evidence for local law enforcement agencies throughout the state and is the only FDLE lab specializing in Forensic Documents Examination.

In 2019, FDLE Pensacola welcomed its first Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) canine, Maple. Since then, these specialized dogs have aided numerous northwest Florida investigations by tracking down hidden digital evidence—such as cell phones, thumb drives, computers, and storage cards.

In order to better serve the community, a new building was erected in 2023 to replace the previous building heavily impacted by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Dedicated to former Commissioner James T. Moore, the modern center expands the capabilities of investigations and forensics to keep pace with an ever-evolving criminal landscape.
