Biology/DNA

BiologyOur mission is to examine evidence collected from crime scenes in order to detect material and develop DNA profiles for comparisons and investigative purposes. DNA is found in every cell of the body with the exception of mature red blood cells, and is often left behind at crime scenes through blood, semen, saliva, skin cells, hairs and tissues. Our analysts perform STR DNA analysis. Short Tandem Repeats are short segments of repetitive DNA that vary between people, except for identical twins.Biology Services Once a  DNA profile is obtained from evidence, it can be compared to reference standard DNA known to come from a particular individual. It is this comparison that can link a person to the DNA found at a crime scene or eliminate them as a possible donor or source of the DNA. Analysts issue laboratory reports and may also present their findings to a jury during a criminal trial.
