Sexual Assault Kit Project
Our mission is to examine items of evidence in order to determine the source of handwriting and office machine-produced documents. In addition, Document Examiners work to detect alterations, decipher obliterations, restore legibility of damaged documents, and recover indented handwriting or other impressions from paper. They are often able to establish the authenticity of a document through their comparison of inks and papers. A document is defined as anything upon which a mark is made for the purpose of conveying a message. Many seemingly insignificant documents involved in criminal investigations may offer proof of certain facts. If needed by a court of law, an analyst may present their findings to a jury during a criminal trial.
