Mandatory Retraining Requirements

All full-time, part-time, or auxiliary officers shall successfully complete at least 40 hours of in-service training or Advanced, Specialized, or Career Development Training courses every four years.

Salary Incentive vs. Mandatory Retraining

  • College credit, Advanced Training, and Career Development Training courses may be counted for either salary incentive or mandatory retraining credit.
  • The agency administrator’s written approval is required for an officer to attend Advanced and Career Development Training courses.
  • The agency administrator shall specify whether the officer is to receive mandatory retraining or salary incentive credit for completion of the course(s).  
  • The written notification shall be in a format agreed upon by the agency and a Commission-certified criminal justice training school and shall be forwarded from the agency to the training school
  • College credit courses may be counted towards mandatory retraining requirements provided the courses are NOT used to meet the requirements for a college degree for which the officer will qualify for Educational Salary Incentive.  Forty hours of mandatory retraining credit will be granted for the successful completion of three credit hours or four quarter hours of college course work.
 

Mandatory Retraining Requirements for Law Enforcement Officers

  • Human Diversity - There is no hour requirement for this training.  Completion of Discriminatory Profiling and Professional Traffic Stops training may satisfy this training requirement at the discretion of the agency administrator.
  • Use-of-Force - There is no hour requirement for this training, but the training must include instruction in scenario-based firearms training, physiological response dynamics training, less-lethal force options available within the agency, agency use of force policies and legal aspects regarding use-of-force.
  • Firearms Qualification - This requirement must be completed every two years and reported every even numbered year.
  • Domestic Violence - There is no hour requirement for this training.
  • Juvenile Sexual Offender Investigations - There is no hour requirement for this training.
  • Discriminatory Profiling and Professional Traffic Stops - There is no hour requirement for this training.
  • Misuse of Electronic Databases – There is no hour requirement for this training, but training must include the proper use, and limitations on use, of electronic databases and the penalties associated with the misuse of electronic databases.
  • Officer Health and Wellness Principles – The course must be the Commission-approved on-line course.
 

Mandatory Retraining Requirements for Correctional Officers

  • Human Diversity - There is no hour requirement for this training.
  • Use-of-Force - There is no hour requirement for this training, but the training must include instruction in scenario-based firearms training, physiological response dynamics training, less-lethal force options available within the agency, agency use of force policies and legal aspects regarding use-of-force.
 
Mandatory Retraining Requirements for Correctional Probation Officers
  • Human Diversity - There is no hour requirement for this training.
  • Use-of-Force - There is no hour requirement for this training, but the training must include instruction in physiological response dynamics training, less-lethal force options available within the agency, agency use of force policies and legal aspects regarding use-of-force. 
     

Failure to Complete Mandatory Retraining


Section 943.1395(4), F.S. and Rule 11B-27.00212(6), F.A.C., state that the certification of any officer who fails to meet the mandatory retraining requirement shall become inactive.

If mandatory retraining is not completed, an officer is not statutorily authorized to perform the duties of a sworn officer until the officer has satisfied the mandatory retraining requirements.

An officer's certificate shall remain inactive until the Officer Records Section has received documentation from the officer's employing agency verifying that the training has been completed.

Upon completion of the mandatory retraining, the employing agency shall electronically transmit the training information via ATMS, or submit a new Registration of Employment and Affidavit of Compliance CJSTC Form 60 and a Mandatory Retraining Report CJSTC Form 74, reflecting the officer's compliance with the mandatory retraining requirements.

The employment date on the Registration of Employment and Affidavit of Compliance CJSTC Form 60 shall reflect the date the officer completed mandatory retraining.
