18 Sexual Predators and Offenders arrested in two operations

ALACHUA AND COLUMBIA COUNTIES, Fla. – Inspectors and agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) partnered with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the Lake City Police Department, the Florida Department of Corrections and the State Attorney’s Office for the Third Judicial Circuit as part of two joint investigations that involved completing residential address checks, resulting in 18 arrests of sexual predators and sexual offenders.
 
Throughout the two investigations spanning a total of seven days, agents focused on warrant checks, confirmation of immigration status and identifying potential registration violations.
 
During the three-day operation known as “Operation Cleanse the Swamp” in Alachua County, FDLE and ACSO investigators traveled to 134 addresses to confirm that the sexual offender and sexual predator registrants are complying with Florida’s registration laws. Multiple registrants were arrested for not complying with Florida’s registration laws. Six of the offenders were transported to the Alachua County jail and two were turned over to the custody of immigration officials.
 
During the four-day operation known as “Operation Spring Fever” in Columbia County, FDLE and CCSO investigators traveled to 345 addresses to confirm compliance with Florida’s registration laws. 10 arrests were made, including eight sexual offenders and two sexual predators, and 281 addresses were verified.

FDLE’s Enforcement and Investigative Support (EIS) Unit partners with sheriff’s offices, police departments and federal law enforcement across Florida to verify compliance with Florida’s registration laws requiring sex offenders and predators to report to their local sheriff’s office and provide information including residential addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle information, internet identifiers, photograph, passport and conviction information.
