ALTHA, Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Gail Yvonne Young, 59, of Altha, for grand theft over $100,000, a first-degree felony. Young was the bookkeeper of a local farm machinery business in the Panhandle.

The investigation began on Dec. 5, 2024, when FDLE received information from the business owners that Young was engaged in a scheme to defraud the company. An audit conducted by the business’ accounting firm identified unauthorized payments Young made to herself.

The investigation found that Young was the company’s bookkeeper and responsible for payroll, accounts receiving and inventory. Agents uncovered that she fraudulently paid herself more than $202,700 in addition to her normal salary.

She was arrested without incident on Jan. 31, 2025, and booked into the Jackson County Jail. The Office of the State Attorney, 14th Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case.

The investigation was conducted by the FDLE Panama City Field Office with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The case remains active.
