FDLE, Tampa PD, USMS: 44 arrested in Operation Matchmaker

TAMPA, Fla. – Inspectors and agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) partnered with Tampa Police Department (TPD) and the United States Marshals Service (USMS) investigators to conduct Operation Matchmaker, resulting in 44 arrests. 
 
The yearlong operation targeted sexual offender and sexual predator registrants who had unreported online dating accounts in violation of Florida’s registration laws.
 
The joint operation was conducted in partnership with Match Group Americas, which owns/operates multiple dating applications, including match.com, used throughout the country. During the investigation, online dating accounts associated with registered sexual offenders/predators were identified. All confirmed accounts were immediately terminated by Match Group Americas in accordance with their user agreement policies which prohibit sexual offenders and predators from accessing their applications.

FDLE’s Enforcement and Investigative Support (EIS) Unit partners with sheriff’s offices, police departments and federal law enforcement across Florida to verify compliance with Florida’s registration laws requiring sex offenders and predators to report to their local sheriff’s office and provide information including residential addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle information, internet identifiers, photograph, passport and conviction information.
