CHIPLEY, Fla – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested registered sex offender Timothy William Borton, 58, of Chipley, on 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and two counts of violation of sex offender registration.

The investigation began on June 5 when FDLE agents received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) alerting agents to a social media account uploading a video file depicting the sexual abuse of children.

The investigation identified the account holder’s residence which was associated with Borton, and the social media accounts had not been reported as required by Florida’s sex offender registration laws.

On Oct. 23 agents served a warrant on Borton’s residence, and a forensic preview of his cellphone located several child sexual exploitation files.

Borton was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail. The case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, 14th Judicial Circuit.

FDLE previously arrested Borton in 2020 for possession and transmission of child sexual abuse material. He was found guilty of possession of child sexual abuse material in 2020 and is required to register and comply with Florida’s sexual offender laws.
