December 28, 2023

Tallahassee, Fla. – Members from the Tallahassee Police Department, Lynn Haven Police Department and the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service graduated from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) Sniper School on December 13.

The FDLE Sniper School was developed to prepare law enforcement to perform in their role as their agency’s sniper. This was the first FDLE Sniper School offered to external agencies.

The students endured ten straight days of physical, mental and technical tasks designed to train them in the use of tactical marksmanship skills. Topics included short-, medium- and long-range accuracy, urban and rural field craft, operation planning and execution, overwatch and observation techniques, and much more. The school culminated on the last day with an intensive qualification course designed to confirm their skills as a law enforcement sniper.

The Sniper School is one of many law enforcement tactical courses the FDLE Sworn Training Unit offers to law enforcement partners free of charge. The courses are developed and offered in FDLE’s continuing effort to provide quality tactical training for agencies in need throughout the country.
