TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor DeSantis’ Bold Vision For a Brighter Future budget improves access to information for Florida law enforcement and citizens.
“Governor DeSantis’ budget prioritizes public safety by continuing the Florida Sex Offender Registry upgrade, supporting the transition to incident-based crime reporting and ensuring Florida is a leader in the uniform collection of criminal justice data,” said FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen.   “We are deeply appreciative of Governor DeSantis for his unwavering commitment to public safety and Florida law enforcement.”
FDLE received money to complete the Sex Offender Registry upgrade, establishing the Registry as a resource for the law enforcement community and the public for years to come. The upgrade eliminates outdated technology and improves ease of use for citizens.
With the 2019-2020 budget, Florida will continue its transition to incident-based crime reporting in the Uniform Crime Report Program. The transition will be complete by 2021, ensuring Florida is in compliance with FBI requirements and providing a wealth of crime data to law enforcement and the public.
The budget provides funding for Florida’s Criminal Justice Data Transparency effort.  FDLE is working with criminal justice partners around the state to establish uniform collection of criminal justice data and make that information available to the public.
The budget also allows FDLE to purchase DNA collection and database supplies, to increase staffing to improve output and reduce turnaround time and to expand its public records section to better respond to increasing public records requests.
