FDLE Agents arrest serial bank burglar in overnight bank heist

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Gene Alfonso Schuler, 49, while he was burglarizing the Fifth Third Bank at 1179 Beville Road in Daytona Beach, Fla.  around 3 a.m. this morning.  Schuler was released from federal prison in June after serving time for previous bank burglaries.

During this morning's incident, Schuler entered the bank after breaking a window and circumventing the security system to avoid detection, all while under surveillance of FDLE Agents. Agents have been investigating Schuler for the past several months and believe he may be involved in as many as two dozen bank burglaries throughout Florida since his release from prison.

Schuler was transported to the Volusia County Jail Substation.  The case will be prosecuted by the Seventh Judicial Circuit.
FDLE Agents remain on-scene at the bank in Daytona Beach as they process more evidence from the scene.
