Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey formally accepted the department’s reaccreditation award for the Office of Inspector General’s investigative function on Feb. 6, 2014. The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) presented the reaccreditation award at a commission meeting held in Jacksonville, Fla. This is the FDLE OIG’s first CFA reaccreditation.
“The accreditation process is a key component in the Florida IG system,” said FDLE Commissioner Bailey. “I’m proud of this award. It confirms the professionalism and quality of work in this elite unit.”
Undergoing the voluntary state accreditation process provides FDLE with an independent quality assurance review. As part of the accreditation process, the Office of Inspector General underwent rigorous inspections which included on-site assessments, employee interviews, and extensive reviews of policies, procedures and records. The office was required to comply with a set of 42 standards.
The accreditation program for Florida agencies’ Offices of Inspectors General was implemented by CFA in October 2007. The program is designed to ensure professional standards and enhance the quality of investigations.
