Special Agent Employment

FDLE Special Agents are sworn officers with statewide authority to investigate and enforce Florida’s criminal laws. Special Agents assist the state’s criminal justice community by providing a variety of services including: identifying and investigating organized and multi-jurisdictional crimes; enhancing domestic security preparedness; collecting and disseminating criminal intelligence information; investigating public corruption; seizing illegally obtained assets; dismantling drug trafficking organizations; assisting in locating missing children; and providing protective services to Florida’s Governor and other dignitaries.

Eligibility: To be eligible for a Special Agent position, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen; at least 19 years of age; of good moral character; possess and maintain throughout employment a valid Florida driver’s license; possess a high school diploma/GED; and not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement.
In addition, applicants must have at least four years of sworn law enforcement experience or a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminology/criminal justice, accounting, finance, computer science or related fields.

Special Notes: Preference will be given to applicants who have sworn law enforcement experience, of which at least two (2) years are in criminal investigations. Applicants must possess Florida Criminal Justice Standards before a job offer can be extended.

This position is classified as Special Risk retirement, which provides eligible members a greater retirement credit accrual rate and requires fewer years of service to reach full retirement benefits than is required for non-Special Risk members.

Salary: Persons selected will be hired at the minimum salary ($45,819.54) and increases are granted based upon appropriations as determined by the Florida Legislature. The annual salary for this position in Monroe, Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties is $50,819.34.
