About Capitol Police

As state law enforcement officers, the mission of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Capitol Police is to serve the safety and security needs of both the legislative and executive branches of state government. Capitol Police serve as a specially trained and highly effective security and law enforcement agency serving the Capitol Complex and Capitol Circle Office Center (CCOC). It shall be the primary responsibility of the Capitol Police to protect the security of the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the members of the Cabinet, and the members of the Senate and of the House of Representatives, and those employees assigned to assist such state officials in the performance of their official duties.

About the Colonel

Deputy Director Seth MontgomerySeth Montgomery was named colonel of Capitol Police in September 2022. He joined FDLE in 2006 and served as deputy director of Capitol Police since January 2020.
 
Colonel Montgomery has more than 20 years of diversified law enforcement experience and has held positions within in the FDLE Protective Operations Section, the Office of Executive Investigations Professional Standards Unit, the Tallahassee Regional Operations Center Organized Crime Squad, and the Drug Enforcement Administration Taskforce. Additionally, Colonel Montgomery served as special agent supervisor over Missing Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse and the assistant special agent in charge of the Enforcement and Investigative Support Bureau.

Prior to joining FDLE, Colonel Montgomery served as a patrol officer and criminal investigator with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He also served as a member of the FWC Special Operations Group and the FDLE Special Operations Team.

Colonel Montgomery holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in pre-law from Florida A&M University.

FDLE is composed of five areas: Executive Direction and Business Support, Criminal Investigations and Forensic Science, Criminal Justice Information, Criminal Justice Professionalism and Florida Capitol Police. FDLE’s duties, responsibilities and procedures are mandated through Chapter 943, FS, and Chapter 11, FAC.
