The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) serves as the State Administering Agency (SAA) for various federal grant programs administered through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). As the SAA, FDLE secures, distributes, and manages federal grant funds for Florida’s criminal justice community.
In addition to federal funds, FDLE also administers state grants for pass-through to local law enforcement, criminal justice, and some non-profit organizations, as appropriate through the state’s annual General Appropriations Act.
FDLE is composed of five areas: Executive Direction and Business Support, Criminal Investigations and Forensic Science, Criminal Justice Information, Criminal Justice Professionalism and Florida Capitol Police. FDLE’s duties, responsibilities and procedures are mandated through Chapter 943, FS, and Chapter 11, FAC.
