LIVE OAK, Fla. – Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Alzada Jenkins, 64, who was the evidence custodian at the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office.   Jenkins is charged with stealing more than $60,000 from the evidence vault between the mid-1990s and 2011.   She became the evidence custodian in the late 1980s and was placed on administrative suspension without pay when the investigation started. She has now been terminated.
FDLE began its investigation in March at the request of Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron after deputies discovered money was missing from some cases.  Jenkins is charged with grand theft, official misconduct, and tampering with evidence.
Jenkins turned herself in earlier today at the Suwannee County Jail and was released.   The State Attorney, 3rd Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case.
