Planning and Budgeting Bureau

Overview
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Planning and Budgeting Bureau (PBB) administers state grants for pass-through to local law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, and some non-profits, as appropriated by the Florida Legislature. PBB is also responsible for the management of FDLE’s budget and grant funds awarded to FDLE’s divisions.

 

Structure

PBB is divided between two units - Planning and Budgeting and Contracts and Grants. Planning and Budgeting is responsible for the management of agency resources through oversight of the agency's operating budget. Contracts and Grants is responsible for managing FDLE's grant funds awarded to FDLE's divisions, as well as administering State Financial Assistance to local agencies related to various projects.

Services

PBB aids recipients in managing their awards. PBB provides assistance during the application and project development phase to ensure the proposed project is allowable under the state financial assistance program. PBB also serves recipients post-award by sending reminders of upcoming deadlines and assisting with the submission of required reports. 
 

Programs
PBB administers state and federal grants for pass-through to local law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, and state projects, as appropriated by the Florida Legislature and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP). State Financial Assistance
CJDT Criminal Justice Data Transparency (CJDT)
This program provides funding to local criminal justice agencies, institutions of higher education, and non-profits, pursuant to Florida Statutes 900.05 and 943.6871.
FIBRS Florida Incident-Based Reporting System (FIBRS)
This program provides funding for the mandated transition to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) as appropriated by the Florida Legislature.
S.A.F.E. State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (S.A.F.E.)
This program provides funding to local criminal justice agencies, institutions of higher education, and non-profits, as appropriated by the Florida Legislature in 2023.
 
Federal Funding
Coverdell Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program
This program provides funding to Florida Medical Examiners, and state and local crime laboratories for the purpose of improving the quality and timeliness of forensic science, medical examiner/coroner, and laboratory services. 


Florida Department of Law Enforcement Priorities

FDLE is composed of five areas: Executive Direction and Business Support, Criminal Investigations and Forensic Science, Criminal Justice Information, Criminal Justice Professionalism and Florida Capitol Police.
