Jan. 30, 2026
BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Jeffery Howard Oppold, 69, of Bonita Springs, on 15 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. This arrest is a result of FDLE’s statewide initiative to locate and arrest criminals targeting children and sharing files depicting the sexual abuse of children.
FDLE initiated the investigation on Dec. 30, 2025 when agents conducted an online operation aimed at identifying individuals sharing child sexual abuse material on a peer-to-peer sharing network. Investigators identified an IP address that was downloading files depicting the sexual abuse of children. The investigation revealed that the IP address belonged to Oppold.
On Jan. 27, 2026, FDLE agents conducted a search warrant for Oppold’s residence and seized an electronic device. A digital forensic analysis identified multiple files of child sexual abuse material on the device.
Oppold was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search warrant operation.
The case is being prosecuted by Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.
The case remains active and ongoing.
