TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Dedario Jermartinez Hunter, 40, of Gretna, on one count of second-degree murder, a first-degree felony. Hunter is the suspect in the shooting at a memorial service in Gretna on November 1.
The investigation began on Nov. 1 when the Gretna Police Department contacted FDLE to investigate a shooting in Gretna. There was a large memorial service being held for a victim of another homicide that occurred two weeks prior. Four victims were struck by gunfire and one died as a result of the gunshot wounds. One victim was run over by a vehicle that was attempting to flee the shooting.
Further investigation revealed an armed suspect, later identified as Hunter, arrived at the scene of the event with a semi-automatic weapon and began shooting into the crowd.
Hunter surrendered himself at the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office on November 3 without incident. The Gretna Police Department and the Gadsen County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
The State Attorney’s Office of the Second Judicial Circuit is prosecuting the case.
The investigation remains active. Additional arrests and charges are forthcoming.
