TALLAHASSEE Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is proud to announce the promotion of Derrick Rahming to Colonel of Capitol Police. With more than two decades of diversified law enforcement experience and distinguished military service, Colonel Rahming brings proven leadership and a strong commitment to public safety to this role.

Since joining FDLE in 2024, Colonel Rahming has overseen key operational divisions and provided steady leadership during major incidents. His background includes extensive service with the Florida Highway Patrol, as well as the Florida Army National Guard, where he demonstrated dedication to protecting communities and supporting fellow law enforcement officers.

“Colonel Rahming embodies the professionalism, integrity and leadership that FDLE values,” said FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass. “His experience across law enforcement and military service ensures Capitol Police remains in capable hands as we continue our mission of safeguarding Florida’s Capitol.”

Colonel Rahming becomes only the second person to hold the title of Colonel for Capitol Police, a position created to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the division. Capitol Police serve the safety and security needs of Florida’s legislative and executive branches of government, providing specially trained law enforcement for the Capitol Complex and Capitol Circle Office Center (CCOC). The primary responsibility of Capitol Police is protecting the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Cabinet members, legislators and their staff, while prioritizing the safety of all employees working within the Capitol Complex and CCOC.

This promotion underscores FDLE’s commitment to strong leadership and public safety at Florida’s Capitol.
