FDLE, HCSO: 9 arrested in Operation Broken Crayon

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Inspectors and agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) partnered with Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole to conduct Operation Broken Crayon. The operation was launched to confirm that registered sexual predators and offenders are complying with Florida’s registration laws.
 
During the two-day operation, physical contact was made with 63 registrants residing in Hernando County to verify they continue to follow registration laws. Nine arrests were made.
 
Six registrants were arrested for failing to report mandatory information as required by law.

Three registrants were arrested for violating sex offender/sexual predator probation conditions.

All suspects were booked into the Hernando County Jail.
 
The operation was conducted by FDLE’s Enforcement and Investigative Support Bureau inspectors, FDLE’s Brooksville Field Office agents, HCSO investigators and the Florida Department of Corrections. FDLE’s crime intelligence analysts also assisted.
 
FDLE’s Enforcement and Investigative Support (EIS) Unit partners with sheriffs across Florida to verify compliance with state registration laws requiring sex offenders and predators to report to their local sheriff’s office and provide information including residential addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle information, internet identifiers, photograph, passport and conviction information.
