MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Sworn Training Unit taught two high-liability classes to Lauderdale County sheriff’s officers in Mississippi in mid-December. This is the first out-of-state training the unit has offered.
FDLE’s Sworn Training Unit provided Single Officer Response to Active Shooter and Counter Ambush training courses to the sheriff’s office SWAT and school resource officers at the request of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.
FDLE’s Single Officer Response to Active Shooter course is designed to teach officers the tactics and mental preparation needed to respond alone to an active shooter situation.
FDLE’s Counter Ambush Training course is designed to improve an officer’s chance of survival during critical situations. The training includes the use of an ambush vehicle from which students conduct live fire situations in response to various scenarios.
The demanding courses included several live fire shooting drills in various shooting positions, such as moving and shooting, ground shooting and shooting out of a car during an ambush scenario.
FDLE’s Sworn Training unit developed the courses in response to an increasing number of law enforcement agencies across the state seeking training to deal with active shooter situations and law enforcement officer ambushes.
The FDLE Sworn Training Unit travels throughout Florida to conduct the free training with law enforcement agencies.
