Dixie County sex offender arrested for using fake social media accounts to contact children

For Immediate Release
August 12, 2021

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – FDLE, the U.S Marshals, and Alachua County Sheriff's Office today arrested Jeremy Farnham, 36, on one count each of a sexual offender failing to register internet identifier(s), internet electronic mail address and cellular telephone number. Each count is defined as a second-degree felony under Florida’s registration laws.

The investigation began when the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office requested FDLE’s assistance with an allegation involving a registered sex offender. The Sheriff’s Office had received an anonymous tip that Farnham was using social media accounts to chat with underage girls. Agents discovered that in addition, Farnham was using aliases and taking active steps to deceive the Florida Sex Offender Registry.

In August 2020, FDLE obtained three arrest warrants for Farnham charging him with different violations of the Florida Sex Offender Registry. Farnham remained a fugitive until late July 2021, when agents located an address for him in rural Alachua County.

Farnham was booked into the Alachua County Jail. Additional charges are dependent upon completion of forensics exams. This case will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s Office, 8th Judicial Circuit.
