Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN)

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Program (PSN) is a national program administered by the U.S Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) to address the problem of violent crime in communities across the nation.

Funds for this program are allocated to DOJ’s U.S. Attorney’s Offices (USAO) and awarded to a designated fiscal agent. FDLE’s Office of Criminal Justice Grants (OCJG) was selected by Florida’s three USAO districts to administer these funds for the state.

The PSN program focuses on the following principles:

• Leadership
• Partnership
• Targeted and Prioritized Enforcement
• Prevention
• Accountability

Under this program, each USAO district is required to develop a strategic action plan to identify targeted enforcement areas (TEAs) and data-driven strategies to address the problems in those areas. For more information on each USAO district’s strategies, visit the PSN District Information page.
 

Application Process

Florida is divided into three U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) districts – Northern, Middle, and Southern. To see how these districts are divided, please refer to the Florida District Map.
 

Overview

Florida's Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program competitively awards funds within each of the three USAO districts.

The federal PSN program guidelines require awards to be nominated for funding by an approved selection committee in each district. The selection committees score applications on defined criteria such as eligibility, relation to identified priorities, and whether the proposed initiative is evidenced based.

Once the selection committee makes recommendations for funding, the applications are provided to the U.S. Department of Justice for final review and approval.
 

Eligibility Requirements

Prior to submitting a PSN application, prospective recipients should verify compliance with the eligibility requirements identified in the posted award solicitation. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the rejection of the application.
 

Application Requirements

Once the funding opportunity is open, application for Florida's PSN program must be submitted through the AmpliFund grant management system.

Post Award

Once a recipient is selected and approved by the U.S. Department of Justice, OCJG approves the award in AmpliFund, executes award documents, and provides copies to the recipient. Upon receipt of the award documents, recipients are advised to carefully review all enclosures to ensure there are no special conditions applied to the award. If there are special conditions on the award, recipients should contact their assigned grant manager for more information prior to beginning project activities.
