Online Mandatory Training

Recognizing Head Injuries in Infants and Children

Florida Statute 943.17298 states that the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission will establish instruction for law enforcement officers on the topic of recognition of and responses to head trauma and brain injury in a child under 6 years of age to aid an officer in the detection of head trauma and brain injury due to child abuse.

It also requires that all law enforcement officers complete this training as a part of Basic Recruit Training or as a part of mandatory retraining before July 1, 2022. The course is a one-time training and may count for 1 hour toward the officers’ 40 hours of mandatory retraining.

The successful completion of this course will satisfy the mandatory retraining requirements for law enforcement officers who are first responders to potential child abuse cases.

*Please Note: This course contains graphic photos depicting child abuse and may be traumatizing to some viewers.

Important message: Once you compete the course you will be asked to enter your name and email address. Your proof of completion will be sent to the email address you enter. You may use any email address. You will print that email and submit it to your agency’s designated training coordinator.
