FDLE arrests Tampa attorney for grand theft

TAMPA - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Tampa Bay Regional Operations Center arrested David Anthony Fontes, 51, on charges of grand theft and organized fraud following a five-month investigation. 

FDLE began the case after receiving a tip from the Florida Bar.  The investigation shows that Fontes embezzled money intended to pay the debts of a client’s estate.  Fontes was entrusted with more than $138,000.  Once he received the funds he allegedly began using the money for personal gain.  
Fontes was arrested without incidentand booked into Hillsborough County Jail.  The Office of the State Attorney, 13th Judicial Circuit, will prosecute the case. Fontes was suspended by the Florida Bar.
