Former nurse arrested for trafficking oxycodone

DAYTONA BEACH - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested former nurse Jeffery Edwards of Ormond Beach, Fla. on 4 counts of trafficking oxycodone, a first degree felony.

The investigation began in November 2011 when a pharmacist reported suspicious activity involving prescriptions obtained by Edwards, a manager at a local doctor’s office.  The investigation revealed that Edwards allegedly filled 2,500 oxycodone pills at several Volusia pharmacies in the month of October 2011. The investigation further revealed Edwards was in possession of at least 28 grams of and up to 30 kilos of oxycodone in August, September and October.   Edwards is also accused of stealing a prescription pad and using his company’s business credit card to purchase the oxycodone.

He was terminated from his job in November.   In 2001, Edwards had his nursing license suspended after mishandling the controlled substance Demerol.

He was booked into the Volusia County Jail.  The investigation is ongoing.
