| Violent Crime for Florida, 1998 - 2018

Violent crime includes Murder, Rape^, Robbery, and Aggravated Assault. From 1998 to 2018, Florida experienced a decrease in the number of reported Violent offenses, down 39.7 percent from 135,925 reported offenses in 1998 to 81,896 in 2018. The overall Violent crime rate has had a significant decrease of 56.6 percent from 906.1 offenses per 100,000 population in 1998 to 393.0 in 2018. Florida's population increased 38.9 percent during the period.

^ Beginning in 2013, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) UCR Program implemented a new definition of Rape that includes incidents previously reported as Forcible Sodomy. The Rape data for years prior to 2013 have been adjusted to allow for comparison between years.

*Figures include the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting incident on June 12, 2016, where 49 persons were killed.
