FCJEI Programs

The Chief Executive Seminar was developed to meet the educational needs of agency chief executives, the Senior Leadership Program was designed for the leadership in criminal justice agencies at the middle management level, the Florida Leadership Academy was designed to meet the need for formal training at the entry level of supervision. The most recent addition to the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute is the Executive Leadership Seminar, this was created for the command staff level in criminal justice organizations. The Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute can now address the leadership development needs in organizations at every level of supervision, from sergeant to CEO. The charter class of the Chief Executive Seminar started in January 1991 and graduated on March 27, 1991. The first class of the Senior Leadership Program started in July of 1991 and graduated in January of 1993. The charter class of the Florida Leadership Academy graduated on October 31, 2003. The charter class of the Executive Leadership Seminar began in September 2006 and will graduate in December 2006.

Today the Chief Executive Seminar, the Senior Leadership Program, the Florida Leadership Academy, and the Executive Leadership Seminar are all highly respected education programs. The FCJEI also offers a series of one to five day courses for Continuing Executive Development. These courses are developed around advanced law enforcement subjects and contemporary issues that are of interest to criminal justice professionals at every level of leadership.

Research conducted by the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute is published on this site. Participants in the Senior Leadership Program also frequently publish papers resulting from their research in other periodicals and make presentations of research findings at professional meetings and in other forums. Networking and mentoring are encouraged at every level and through all programs of the FCJEI. The Graduates Education Conference, an annual meeting exclusively for graduates of the Chief Executive Seminar, the Senior Leadership Program, the Florida Leadership Academy, and the Executive Leadership SEminar. This conference encourages networking among the graduates of these programs as well as providing an additional educational opportunity. The Annual Graduates Education Conference is sponsored by the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute Associates, Inc.

The Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute enjoys a reputation for excellence that would not be possible without the support of the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, resources made available by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and guidance from The Florida State University and the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute Policy Board.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement Priorities

FDLE is composed of five areas: Executive Direction and Business Support, Criminal Investigations and Forensic Science, Criminal Justice Information, Criminal Justice Professionalism and Florida Capitol Police. FDLE’s duties, responsibilities and procedures are mandated through Chapter 943, FS, and Chapter 11, FAC.
