MARATHON, Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested James Lawrence Pena, 43, of Marathon, on 11 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.
FDLE’s investigation began when FDLE received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that an internet user had uploaded files depicting the sexual abuse of children into a search engine. Further investigation revealed the user’s IP address originated at a Marathon residence, where Pena lives.
Following an extensive investigation, a residential search warrant and digital forensic analysis, FDLE agents and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Pena on October 23. He was subsequently transported to the Monroe County Jail.
The Monroe County State Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
The investigation remains active.
