FDLE arrests illegal alien for trafficking pink cocaine

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Carlos Maya-Nunez, 33, an illegal alien from Columbia, on two counts of trafficking in phenethylamines of 10 grams or more. He will face the FDLE charges prior to facing immigration proceedings.
FDLE’s investigation began in January when agents received information about a drug trafficking organization distributing large quantities of Tusi cocaine, also known as “pink cocaine”, through a network in Florida and across the U.S. Pink cocaine is a synthetic narcotic that may contain several different substances, but is commonly produced by mixing MDMA, fentanyl, ketamine and other narcotics.
The investigation identified Maya-Nunez as a member connected to the drug trafficking network. Following an undercover operation, agents obtained an arrest warrant for Maya-Nunez for trafficking pink cocaine.
On November 15, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office took Maya-Nunez into custody with the FDLE warrant. Maya-Nunez was extradited to the Manatee County Jail on November 17.
Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution is prosecuting the case.
The investigation remains active.
