MELBOURNE, Fla. – Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Christopher William Eisen II, 47, on charges of felony battery against a suspect.  Eisen is a police officer with Melbourne PD.

FDLE Agents began investigating Eisen earlier this month at the request of Melbourne Police Chief  Steve Mimbs.

Chief Mimbs stated, “We absolutely will not tolerate these types of activities and will be thorough and relentless when allegations such as these arise. In this case, the process used by our supervisors to review each use of force scenario uncovered this incident and we took immediate action to have it investigated. Our officers are devoted to maintaining the utmost professionalism even in the face of provocation. The Melbourne Police Department will continue to be committed to having a transparent relationship with the community we serve.”

The investigation shows that on April 5, Eisen transported a handcuffed suspect to a local hospital per protocol.   As he was preparing to escort the suspect inside, Eisen punched him several times in the face with a closed fist.

Eisen was booked into the Brevard County Jail this evening on a $15,000 bond.  The case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, 18th Judicial Circuit.
