For Immediate Release

January 29, 2015

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Arthur Scherer, 53, for failure to register as a sex offender in Florida.  Scherer was arrested this morning near Lake Bradford Rd. and Gaines St.  Scherer was convicted in Georgia for child molestation and cruelty to children in 1991 and 2002 respectively.

FDLE investigators received information that Scherer might be living in Florida and informed him he would be required to register as a sex offender if he ever resided or worked in Florida.

FDLE Agents continued to investigate Scherer and believe he has been living and working within Tallahassee for about six months and failed to register even after the warning. Investigators believe he was living at 1603 Hasosaw Nene in Indian Head Acres.

Laws require sexual offenders to register specific information such as their home address, current employment, and social media identifiers.  Offenders register at their local sheriff’s office and information is provided to FDLE to be maintained publicly online.

Scherer was booked into the Leon County Jail.  This case will be prosecuted by the Office of State Attorney, 2nd Judicial Circuit.

Florida’s sex offender registry began in 1997 and is accessible to the public at http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/homepage.do

FDLE will continue to investigate sexual offenders and predators who attempt to conceal their registration status in Florida.
