FDLE Recognizes Three Orlando Scientists for Outstanding Performance

Three top performing members of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Orlando Regional Operations Center were honored yesterday with awards from FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey. Crime Laboratory Analysts Ryan Warner and Jillian White and Forensic Services Quality Manager Amanda Julian were duly recognized for their exemplary efforts in 2010.
Crime Laboratory Analyst (CLA) White was presented the “Commissioner’s Award” for her outstanding efforts to automate DNA testing using robotics. CLA White developed an implementation plan, trained biologists, coordinated with vendors and helped calibrate the selected instruments. In addition, in 2010 she completed 439 work units, exceeding the standard by 103 percent.  CLA White joined FDLE in 2002.

Crime Laboratory Analyst (CLA) Warner, who serves in the Toxicology section, was named FDLE’s “Forensic Scientist of the Year.” CLA Warner last year completed 2,700 work units, an impressive 104 percent above the expected casework standard. He also assisted in the installation of new instrumentation and provided vital expertise in the validation of a new quantitative blood testing method for cocaine. CLA Warner has served with FDLE for five years.

Forensic Services Quality Manager (FSQM) Amanda Julian was named FDLE’s “Distinguished Member of the Year.” FSQM Julian helped ensure FDLE’s compliance with more than 400 international standards for accreditation by the American Society of Crime Lab Directors / Laboratory Accreditation Board. FSQM Julian conducted an extensive review and update of quality and procedure manuals, briefed and prepared lab personnel, and led an onsite assessment of all seven crime labs. As a result of her diligence, FDLE received its fifth reaccreditation and the first in conformance with international standards. FSQM Julian joined FDLE in 1988.
The three crime lab members took home three of 10 awards presented at FDLE’s Annual Awards Ceremony at the Department’s Tallahassee Headquarters. More than 350 individuals statewide were nominated for the prestigious annual recognitions.
