For Immediate Release
January 6, 2011
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Miami Regional Operations Center and the Miami Dade Police Department Public Corruption Investigations Bureau yesterday arrested Lynn Dean Peters, 45, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.   Peters is a Sergeant with the Golden Beach Police Department.

Peters was charged with one count of organized scheme to defraud, one count of grand theft, one count of insurance fraud and 11 counts of official misconduct.

The investigation began in 2009 after FDLE and the Miami Dade Police Department received allegations that Peters worked off-duty overtime details while on-duty, altered city reimbursement invoices, and failed to compensate the City of Golden Beach for administrative costs relating to the number of off-duty hours that he worked. The total loss for the City of Golden Beach was $2,377.62.
In addition, Peters was also charged with insurance fraud after making statements to an insurance company relating to an on-duty automobile crash. Peters falsely alleged his canine partner was no longer fit for duty as a result of the crash, when in fact the canine had already been designated medically unfit prior to the accident.
Peters turned himself into the Miami Dade County Jail.  Bond was set at $70,000. The Public Corruption Unit within the Office of State Attorney Kathy Fernandez-Rundle, 11th Judicial Circuit, will prosecute the case.
The investigation continues.
