Zolfo Springs Murder Suspect Charged

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office yesterday charged David Cervantes Palafox, 33, of Riverview, Fla. for a 2008 murder in Zolfo Springs, Fla.

The FDLE investigation began January 2008 following a Zolfo Springs Police Department (ZSPD) officer-involved shooting.  The incident occurred after an armed robbery in which one suspect was fatally wounded by a ZSPD officer and a second unidentified suspect fled the scene.  Palafox was recently identified through DNA evidence recovered from the original crime scene.

On Sept. 22, 2010, FDLE agents secured an arrest warrant for Palafox.  He was charged with one count of murder, one count of armed robbery and three counts of grand theft.
Palafox is currently being held in the Mississippi County, Mo. Jail on unrelated charges.  Palafox is expected to be extradited back to Florida.
