FDLE Arrests Holly Hill Woman for Sale of Child

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced the arrest today of Patty Bigbee, 45, of Holly Hill, Fla., for attempting to sell her 8-week old grandson.

The investigation began in late October after Bigbee approached a third party and offered to sell the infant for $75,000.  After a series of negotiations, the price for purchase of the infant was agreed upon at $30,000.  Bigbee and the buyer met to complete the sale shortly after 4 p.m. today in Daytona Beach.  At the transaction, FDLE agents arrested Bigbee and turned the infant over to the care of the Department of Children and Families. 

The child’s mother is incarcerated on unrelated charges.

Bigbee will be booked into the Volusia County Jail and charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child and communication fraud.  The investigation continues.

***NOTE:  Later in the day, FDLE advised that that an additional person was charged in this case.  Lawrence Works, 42, of Holly Hill was charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child, principal in the first degree.  Works was booked into the Volusia County Jail.
