The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) conduct a preliminary investigation into an incident that resulted in a traffic accident following a vehicle pursuit today.

The incident began at approximately 11 a.m. on County Road 318 in Marion County when a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a vehicle stop of a Buick LeSabre for a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop his vehicle.

The subject fled across the county line and in the 6500 block of County Road 121 in Levy County the subject lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle ran off the road and flipped over. The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. The subject’s identity will be released once next of kin notification has been made. No other occupants were in the vehicle.

FDLE’s Gainesville Field Office will review the actions of the deputy with respect to the pursuit and eventual accident. At the conclusion of the investigation, FDLE will present findings to the Office of the State Attorney, Fifth Judicial Circuit for their consideration.
