Pensacola Man Arrested for Sexual Battery

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Carl Daniel “Danny” Sims, 53, of Pensacola, Fla., on March 30 and charged him with capital sexual battery.

Sims was indicted in March by an Escambia County, Fla. grand jury and charged with one count of rape and forcible carnal knowledge of a child under the age of 10. The allegations against Sims stem from incidents of sexual abuse, which occurred in the early 1970’s, in Pensacola, Fla.

Sims was arrested March 30 in Red River Parish, La. by investigators with FDLE and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO). He was subsequently extradited to Pensacola, Fla. where he was booked into the Escambia County Jail and held without bond.

This case was investigated by FDLE and ECSO and was the result of information developed by a regional Cold Case Review Team while investigating the 1988 murder of 19-year-old Kelly Marie Sims. During the case review, investigators received allegations that Danny Sims had committed sexual battery on a minor victim.

The Kelly Sims investigation remains unsolved. Danny Sims is the brother of Kelly Sims.

The Cold Case Review Team consists of investigators with the following agencies: FDLE, ECSO, Pensacola Police Department, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Medical Examiner’s Office, and the State Attorney’s Office of the First Judicial Circuit.
