FDLE Investigation into Tarpon Springs Publix Shooting

On March 29, Tarpon Springs Police Chief Robert Kochen requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Tampa Regional Operations Center assist in the investigation of the shooting incident that occurred at the Publix on U.S. 19 in Tarpon Springs.

FDLE’s investigation encompasses the activity that occurred inside the store and is two-fold:

1) Investigation of the officer-involved shooting by the Tarpon Springs Police Department; and

2) Investigation of the actions of the shooter against individuals inside the Publix and the responding Tarpon Springs police department officers.

As FDLE’s investigation remains active and ongoing, the department is unable to release store surveillance video or provide any further details about the victims and witnesses involved in the incident. At the conclusion of the investigation, findings will be turned over to the Office of State Attorney Bernie McCabe, Sixth Judicial Circuit.

With respect to the second part of the investigation, on March 30, FDLE charged Arunya Rouch, 41, of Tarpon Springs, with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. Copies of the arrest affidavit are attached.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department is investigating the murder of Gregory Janowski which occurred outside the store.
