Pensacola Physician Arrested for Doctor Shopping

On Oct. 8, 2008, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) arrested Dr. Jeffrey Cox for concealing information to obtain prescriptions (“doctor shopping”).

The arrest is a result of a three-year joint investigation into the illegal distribution of controlled substances by the Chronic Pain Management and Managing Chronic Pain clinics in Pensacola, Fla. where Cox was a patient.

Cox, who owns the Complete Pain Management clinic on 4220 North Davis Highway, was charged with four counts of concealing information to obtain prescriptions and booked into the Escambia County Jail. At the time of arrest, Cox was found in possession of drug paraphernalia and prescription pills without a valid prescription.

Cox faces a maximum one year jail sentence for the possession of drug paraphernalia. Each “doctor shopping” count carries a maximum prison sentence of up to five years.
