More Arrests Connected To Drug Investigation

10/24/2008

The second phase of 'Operation Zero Tolerance' was completed Thursday with the arrest of eight Flagler County residents on drug related charges.

"We made a promise to the community that more arrests would be coming and we have kept that promise," said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.

As of Friday morning, eight more arrests had been made as a result of the investigation. With these latest arrests, more than 138 people have been arrested as a result of the operation. Additional arrests are expected as investigators execute the remaining outstanding warrants.

"Law enforcement will continue to be relentless in our search for all members of this illegal violent criminal organization," said Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent in Charge Dominick Pape.

'Operation Zero Tolerance' began in 2006 as an investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office into local drug trafficking. As the investigation progressed, it became clear that the illegal trafficking network extended into other areas of the state and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Tri-County Narcotics Enforcement Task Force joined the investigation.

The FDLE Task Force includes representatives of Flagler, Putnam and St. Johns Counties and U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement.

The investigation spanned 24-months. As information was developed, the Office of Statewide Prosecution (Attorney General's Office) became involved.
