Gulfport Woman Arrested for Embezzlement

Today, Julie Taylor-Mashburn, 45, of Gulfport, turned herself in to the Hillsborough County Jail pursuant to being charged with one count of grand theft and one count of organized scheme to defraud, both first-degree felonies.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement began investigating Mashburn in April 2008, after receiving information from the Tampa Police Department that Mashburn allegedly embezzled money from Gasmasters Inc., a company she had been employed with for approximately eight years.

During the six month investigation, agents learned that Mashburn worked as a bookkeeper with Gasmasters Inc. and was responsible for making payments on their behalf although she had no signature authority on the account.

From July 2005 through February 2008, Mashburn allegedly wrote approximately $240,000 worth of checks payable to herself from the company's operating account. Mashburn was fired from Gasmasters Inc. in February of 2008.

Mashburn was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on a $50,000 bond. The case will be prosecuted by the Office of Statewide Prosecution.
