Additional Charges Filed in Ongoing Investigation of Hollywood Man

5/14/2008

Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agents and Hallandale Beach police have filed 103 new charges against a Hollywood man who is under investigation for allegedly possessing and creating depictions of sexual acts involving children.

Matthew Kent Sheley, 36, of Hollywood, is being charged with 102 counts of sexual performance by a child, which are violations of Florida State Statute 827.071(5), and one count of sexual battery by a person 18 years or older on a victim under 12 years of age, a violation of Florida State Statute 794.011.

Investigators filed the additional charges on May 13 against Sheley, who is being held without bond in the Broward County Jail.

The latest sexual battery charge was filed after FDLE agents and Hallandale Beach police determined that a second juvenile female had been photographed and allegedly sexually assaulted by Sheley. That child had been blindfolded, investigators said.

The additional 102 counts of sexual performance by a child stem from a forensic examination of Sheley’s home computer in which agents found 102 individual photographs, images and videos of children in pornographic sexual situations.

Sheley was first charged in April 2008 with 11 counts of sexual performance by a child and one count of sexual battery on a victim under 12 years of age. Authorities charged Sheley after a resident gave Hallandale Beach police a videotape depicting sex acts that had been found in Sheley’s former residence. During the ongoing investigation, authorities also executed search warrants at Sheley’s Hollywood residence, storage facility and his vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.
