Hillsborough County Doctor Charged with Prescription Fraud

7/16/2008

Today, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) arrested John Nkolo Mubang, 57, of Seffner, for allegedly trafficking in prescription drugs while he worked as an internal medicine doctor at a Tampa medical facility he owns and operates.

The six-month investigation into Mubang was initiated by the HCSO after receiving complaints from several citizens. The investigation revealed that Mubang provided controlled substances to patients without a medical necessity.

Mubang was arrested without incident at his medical practice and charged with three counts of prescribing controlled substances for monetary gain, a third-degree felony and one count of trafficking in controlled substances, a first-degree felony.

Mubang is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail. The State Attorney's Office for the 13th Judicial Circuit will be prosecuting the case.
