Absconded Sex Offender Arrested in Sarasota

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announces the arrest of Michael Joseph Marchiony, 38, for failure to register as a sex offender. Marchiony was arrested Tuesday evening by FDLE special agents with the assistance of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Marchiony has a long criminal history that includes grand theft, fraud, multiple sex offenses, probation violation, and multiple counts of failure to register as a sex offender.

Marchiony was arrested in the 5600 block of Olive Avenue, Sarasota at 4:44 p.m. The residents in the house were aware of Marchiony’s sex offender status.

Marchiony’s arrest is part of an ongoing effort by the FDLE’s Gulf Coast Investigative Strike Force to ensure the safety of the citizens of Sarasota and Manatee counties by pursuing fugitive sex offenders in the community.

Marchiony was booked into the Sarasota County Jail and his bond was set at $50,000.
