Former Zolfo Springs Police Chief Sentenced

2/12/2008

Today, former Zolfo Springs Police Chief David Scheid was sentenced to two years probation, ordered to surrender his police standards within 60 days and pay investigative costs (in the amount of $3,285.70) to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement within the first year of his probation.

Scheid’s sentencing follows his acceptance of a plea bargain yesterday while a jury selection was in progress. Scheid plead guilty to the following: one count of petty theft, one count of falsifying official records and one count of resisting officer without violence. Scheid was found not guilty to an official misconduct charge in a previous trial.

The investigation into Scheid began in November 2005, when FDLE received information alleging Scheid's involvement in falsifying official training records, selling property held as evidence and converting items as evidence to his personal use. After a month and a half long investigation, Scheid was arrested in January 2006. He was booked into the Hardee County Jail and released on a $5,250 bond.
