Arrest Sweep Targets Suspects for Illegal Narcotics Sales

Early this morning, law enforcement officers from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), Palatka Police Department (PPD) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) St. Augustine Field Office’s Tri-County Narcotics Task Force initiated an arrest sweep of 91 suspects alleged to be involved in illegal narcotics sales. Officials arrested 51 of the suspects targeted during the sweep. The suspects were charged with a total of 122 counts of violating the state’s narcotics statutes.

City, county, and state law enforcement began the investigation, dubbed “Operation Rock Star,” in a federally designated “Weed and Seed” area in Palatka. Today’s arrests culminate an almost yearlong cooperative investigation that targeted narcotics sales throughout Putnam County.

The 91 targeted suspects have a total of 1,628 prior arrests. Fifty-one of the 91 targeted suspects have significant violent criminal histories. Thirty-six of the 91 have 20 or more arrests. The most number of prior arrests by a targeted suspect is 100, followed second by 65 arrests of another suspect. Only two of the suspects have no prior arrests. Numerous suspects have a prior arrest for sale of cocaine.

Seventeen undercover officers were utilized in the operation. The officers were provided by FDLE, PCSO, PPD, and the Clay, Flagler and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Offices.

Those arrested were booked into the Putnam County Jail. The State Attorney’s Office will prosecute.

The investigation is ongoing with additional arrests expected.
